Our internet order progresses at the speed of BT!
The PCR commercials continue and are yet to be resolved. In addition we are still identifying changes as we test existing PCR’s. This becomes a concern and we discuss whether we should now allocate some of these changes to post go-live. Unless they effect the anticipated go-live dates we will continue to develop them.

Training plans near completion. Initially the guys will start with the basics in order to build confidence within the staff. This will also give a few weeks breathing space in order to test the complex processes (that are ready) before they are expected to train other people. The vehicle tracking project training begins, although a specific go-live date is pending our technical requirements being agreed. Additional RF costs are submitted for review accompanied by a comprehensive ROI document! My attentions are also drawn back to our Biztalk development as this is now slipping. This is due to the increased amount of development work in the SAP project. My attentions are also drawn back to our Biztalk development as this is now slipping. BOUGHEY DISTRIBUTION ERP IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT: Training/Testing Preparations October 19, 2010

Friday 15th October 2010
The team are tasked with compiling both their training and testing plans for their individual areas. As the realisation phase continues towards completion the knowledge transfer plans are started. These will be one-on-one discussions between our internal team and the consultants – sort of a start to a “train the trainer” approach. The optimisation system is now live and I task the team with a follow-up plan to facilitate working through any operational queries etc. We need to analyse the effect of the changes in our working practices. The deadline for our extra RF hardware requirements gets closer due to lead-times for installations – so this acquires urgent status. We require some additional data from our customers in order to facilitate the extra requirements of WM.

BOUGHEY DISTRIBUTION ERP IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT Training comes into view October 1, 2010

Friday 1st October 2010
The Optimisation project goes live as expected – it is difficult as people get up to speed in a live environment, i.e. coupled with constant queries and other daily duties but the team work tirelessly to make it happen. The SAP training will start at the beginning of November and therefore we have a deadline for facilities to be in place. I want each person in the business to have at least 1-2 hours of SAP exposure from then on in. We champion one of our internal IT team to investigate our proposals for a go-Live strategy. We also explore the possibility of moving forward earlier with the FI module. All the pros and cons are in discussion.

BOUGHEY DISTRIBUTION ERP IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT Optimisation in the final stages September 24, 2010

Friday 24th September 2010
SAP realisation continues and makes good progress. We turn our attentions within the implementation team to producing a solid training and testing plan. One bottleneck at the moment is provided facilities so we explore acquiring extra space in order to provide the environment we need. Preparation is key and I get the departmental managers together to agree a common way forward. The final preparations for the vehicle scheduling project are put into place and we devise a plan to go-live with a subset of customers at a time in order to introduce each member of the department gradually. The main driver for this is that we have a sole person who has the knowledge to help in case of problems. The graduate recruitment continues to prove fruitless with the calibre of applicants falling short of our expectations.

BOUGHEY DISTRIBUTION ERP IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT RF Project Begins September 17, 2010

Friday 17th September 2010
RF commercials are agreed and the plan starts next week with the requirements gathering workshop, which will mainly involve working through the WM blueprint. As we make progress through the SAP realisation we arrange for a weekly conference call to facilitate a regular review of director lead actions. The project team and other vendors will be invited to join as and when required. We also consider to appointment of an IT manager to satisfy the future stability of the department. We would prefer someone with existing SAP experience to help move the department forward quickly post implementation. One concern at the moment is the overhead in getting our master data correct particularly around the WM requirements (eg. case sizes, qty’s etc). The sheer volume of work means we need to think about some extra resource on this to enable our project lead to stay focussed on the “bigger picture” – in particular ensuring that the RF and WM are in sync.

BOUGHEY DISTRIBUTION ERP IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT RF/WM considerations September 11, 2010

Friday 10th September 2010
Another busy week as distractions hit. We lose our only internal developer and so we make an immediate start on finding a replacement. After careful review we feel that we should look towards our future requirements and decide to look for a graduate with the potential of fulfilling an internal ABAP role. This is softened by the fact that the current work required for the optimisation project is in testing and we have 3rd party support for any changes. We agree a new supplier for our vehicle tracking solution and so await a new plan. We work through the RF processes and begin to work on the commercials.

BOUGHEY DISTRIBUTION ERP IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT Workshops End August 13, 2010

Friday 13th August 2010
I have been studying the blueprints and comparing against the original plan. The impending review will be when we are advise of the number of days difference from the original quote and an explanation the differences. My initial thoughts are that the development days for the billing procedure, goods in diary, TMS, Forms, and Reports will all be significant, and that the accumulation of the 30 odd small enhancements will in itself become significant. If I was to take an educated guess I’d say there is somewhere between 100-150 development days in this work. I therefore ask the directors to spend some time reviewing the blueprints to pre-empt things they feel could be excluded if we have to concede some development.
