Friday 26th November 2010

The project team setup their training calendar and begin training the basics in our new dedicated facilities. We hope to make the most from creating an inclusive atmosphere with everyone involved.
Testing continues well and minor tweaks and changes are communicated back to theconsultants.
It is quite hectic with testing and signing-off the sheer number of developments that hit our plate on both the SAP and RF side and we make efforts to increase resources on our team especially around the WM area.
The vehicle tracking project slows due to contract negotiations around support but we hope to get over these quite quickly.
We also concentrate on devising a plan for our new developers to get them up to speed asap.

Friday 19th November

We finally find suitable candidates for the graduate role and decide to employ 2 as part of a longer term plan. In the hope that they can contribute we set up a plan of action for quick fire training specifically around writing reports.

The training is slightly delayed due to last minute problems with facilities but should start next week. The financial go-live is discussed and we set up a steering committee with a view of this going live to coincide with year end (May).

BOUGHEY DISTRIBUTION ERP IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT: Testing November 12, 2010

Friday 12th November 2010

Training is to start next week with some basic SAP navigation to boost confidence and allow feedback and discussion from end users. The guys spend some time with me to address their own concerns mainly around how they deal with questions they cannot answer.
We instigate the additional RF installation.
We are slightly ahead of schedule with our RF development which puts a bit of pressure on our testing. Thankfully the support of the directors allows us to utilise another warehouse resource to aid this. We also hope to this will provide us with another WM expert.
There is light at the end of the tunnel with regards our junior developer position and eventually offer 2 positions. There is some resource requirements with regards to training/induction which we will tackle next week. We also require development resource to aid data take-on which we hope will also be covered with this recruitment.
We move some attention to the specification of the IDOCs required for our Biztalk upgrade as this is now due according to our original plan.

BOUGHEY DISTRIBUTION ERP IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT: Knowledge Transfer November 5, 2010

Friday 5th November 2010

Our training facilities are prepared for training to begin a week on Monday.
The training plans are complete and will be modified if required.
Training for the vehicle tracking will complete the in 2 weeks, so an expected go-live of January is agreed (to avoid the Christmas period). Our additional Capex for the RF hardware/software in the remaining warehouses is agreed.
The knowledge transfer nears completion with the project team and this gives them confidence in the system and in their own ability to pass that knowledge on. Some minor development changes are identified and these are managed with Chelford.

BOUGHEY DISTRIBUTION ERP IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT: Vehicle Tracking Project Kicks Off October 29, 2010

Friday 29th October 2010

Training plans near completion. Initially the guys will start with the basics in order to build confidence within the staff. This will also give a few weeks breathing space in order to test the complex processes (that are ready) before they are expected to train other people. The vehicle tracking project training begins, although a specific go-live date is pending our technical requirements being agreed. Additional RF costs are submitted for review accompanied by a comprehensive ROI document! My attentions are also drawn back to our Biztalk development as this is now slipping. This is due to the increased amount of development work in the SAP project. My attentions are also drawn back to our Biztalk development as this is now slipping. Friday 22nd October 2010

The training facilities are sourced and ordered to arrive in good time for the
start of our phase. The team complete their plans and start their own
worksheet for personal SAP training.
The vehicle tracking project gets under way and training plans and dates
are confirmed for the end of the month.
I also decide to change the Managers/Key personnel meeting to weekly.
Recruitment of a developer continues to prove fruitless.

Friday 15th October 2010

The team are tasked with compiling both their training and testing plans for their individual areas. As the realisation phase continues towards completion the knowledge transfer plans are started. These will be one-on-one discussions between our internal team and the consultants – sort of a start to a “train the trainer” approach. The optimisation system is now live and I task the team with a follow-up plan to facilitate working through any operational queries etc. We need to analyse the effect of the changes in our working practices. The deadline for our extra RF hardware requirements gets closer due to lead-times for installations – so this  acquires urgent status. We require some additional data from our customers in order to facilitate the extra requirements of WM.

BOUGHEY DISTRIBUTION ERP IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT: SAP Baseline Review Complete October 19, 2010

Friday 8th October 2010

Stage 1 of the SAP realisation project is marked by a “baseline review” in which the SAP team demonstrate the basic configured processes within our solution. I meet with key personnel in the business to introduce our thoughts on a training and testing plan. Everyone seems upbeat and the meeting is positive. We will hold these meetings once a fortnight to provide a forum for feedback and updates.

The vehicle optimisation project needs finalising as some users find it more time consuming than others to make the transition. We also find a small technical problem that is manageable but nonetheless needs resolving.

The tracking project kicks off and our supplier spends some time in the department to get a feel for the workflow. This should be a fairly straightforward project as it almost runs in isolation, but will be much more integrated with our SAP system. RF development makes good progress and to ensure we meet original deadlines extra resource is applied. For unit testing we have requirements for good test data to be created in order to fully verify the developments.

SAP

BOUGHEY DISTRIBUTION ERP IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT Training comes into view October 1, 2010

The Optimisation project goes live as expected – it is difficult as people get up to speed in a live environment, i.e. coupled with constant queries and other daily duties but the team work tirelessly to make it happen. The SAP training will start at the beginning of November and therefore we have a deadline for facilities to be in place. I want each person in the business to have at least 1-2 hours of SAP exposure from then on in. We champion one of our internal IT team to investigate our proposals for a go-Live strategy. We also explore the possibility of moving forward earlier with the FI module. All the pros and cons are in discussion.

BOUGHEY DISTRIBUTION ERP IMPLEMENTATION PROJECT Optimisation in the final stages September 24, 2010

Friday 24th September 2010

SAP realisation continues and makes good progress. We turn our attentions within the implementation team to producing a solid training and testing plan. One bottleneck at the moment is provided facilities so we explore acquiring extra space in order to provide the environment we need. Preparation is key and I get the departmental managers together to agree a common way forward. The final preparations for the vehicle scheduling project are put into place and we devise a plan to go-live with a subset of customers at a time in order to introduce each member of the department gradually. The main driver for this is that we have a sole person who has the knowledge to help in case of problems. The graduate recruitment continues to prove fruitless with the calibre of applicants falling short of our expectations.
