A busy week ensures that we review the blueprint, clarify and agree the fine details. The enables the realisation phase to start next week. The optimisation project continues to offer resistance and we are progressing through the necessary IT changes to accommodate the interfaces. Holidays and such like cause difficulties around training availability but we still head towards our go-live date. The vehicle tracking project is stalling. We now invite other tenders to see if we can find a better fit with our current hardware.

The blueprint review allows us to confirm and agree an additional number of development days in order to include all of requirements defined in the workshops. We know turn our attentions to reviewing the final blueprints for one last time in order to sign-off their content.
My attentions are somewhat concentrated on the Optimisation project as this is now well under way. We have some difficulties around the detail where the software doesn’t quite feel as slick when dealing with some of our internal complexities. In addition to this we have a significant resource problem that delays our planned training which will require a couple of weeks extra to overcome.
The Vehicle tracking software is exposed to a much higher degree with some of our specific requirements.
This has caused us to rethink how we should approach this.

I have been studying the blueprints and comparing against the original plan. The impending review will be when we are advise of the number of days difference from the original quote and an explanation the differences. My initial thoughts are that the development days for the billing procedure, goods in diary, TMS, Forms, and Reports will all be significant, and that the accumulation of the 30 odd small enhancements will in itself become significant. If I was to take an educated guess I’d say there is somewhere between 100-150 development days in this work. I therefore ask the directors to spend some time reviewing the blueprints to pre-empt things they feel could be excluded if we have to concede some development.

The workshops are very intense as we review the entire business processes and try to map them as best we can to existing SAP best practices. This also prompts discussion of how we can improve the processes we have been using. Inevitably this becomes heated at times but all helps towards a common goal of a successful efficient system.
We have an issue with our vehicle tracking project as the hardware that exists in the vehicles has been provided by another party. Therefore we need to establish an arrangement between the suppliers of the hardware and the software to work together to provide a solution for us.
From the outset is a difficult situation but replacing the hardware is a cost without justification at this time.
